Found It!!!!!

I think I might have found my answer. A ratio of 3 minutes running and 50 seconds of walking. I tried this tonight at the track workout and it felt good. I tried to keep a equal pace while running but as I continued I kept getting faster. It just felt great. I have got to learn to pace myself for 26.2 miles. I have just got to keep looking at the watch and listening to my body.

Distance = 8 miles

Time = 1:28:29

Pace = 11.06

This is what I wanted to find out tonight. I am very glad to see the results. My PR = 11.46 pace and a sub 5 = 11.26 pace. I just hope to be able to PACE myself and not get crazy at King Burger LOL.

I am off to shower and put this big head to bed.

What to do?????

Here it is only 2 weeks to go before my last run for a while and I have a small question. What to do. Lately I have been running a ratio of 2/1 in training for Snickers. I trained at a 3/1 for Disney. I did not finish good that day I think due to the HOT weather. I don't know whether to try the 3/1 and run a tad bit slower or run a faster 2/1 and try for a PR.

I hope my answer will come soon. I am tired of things just not going right. I can't seem to find the right pace nor the right speed to hold on to the long runs. I think I just have alot on my plate right now. Mandie is having her back surgery next month and I will then be taking a break.

Tomorrow night I am going to go to the track workout and once again try the 3/1 and see if I run it comfortably what the overall time comes out to. I need to break an 11.45 pace for a new PR and an 11.26 pace for a sub 5. I would love to do this and then take a break and come back and train hard for Chickamauga on Nov before doing another 50K at Bartram Forrest.

So if you have some spare time, keep me in your prayers before I run out of medicine. If only the answer would just knock on the door, come through an e-mail or writing in the sky. No I am not worried just nervous about the race. Everyone says "you will do fine". I hope when I get down there I can find some pace groups.

Finally.......

Yes I finally went running again. I thought I was going to loose my mind if I didn't go and pound the pavement. Today I went out with the intentions of getting about 15. Instead I settled for 14 with great company with my friends: Kenny, Stefanie, Mellisa, Mellisa, Brian and Amy.

I started out with Kenny and Stef for about 7.5. I took them through the Indian Mounds and I think Kenny is still flipping me off for those hills. Sorry. It is so peaceful to not have to worry about cars while you run. After we got through they kept me company until the next group took off.

I met up with the rest of the gang on the river walk and took them for a quick tour of the Mounds also. I tried to keep up but after just getting through running the hills, Mellisa and I found the short cuts o:) and would then wait for them.

I found out alot of things about people today. I think that is the best part of running with friends and family. You get a chance to get caught up on everything and learn so new gossip. I got through with my runs today and got about 14 miles in today. That is more than I really thought I would do today.

A very big Thank You to all who ran with me today in order to help me get ready for Snickers. Have a great week and see ya on the paths.

Wanting to just go run

This week really sucked for me. Everyday I tried to get off from work and go run, it didn't happen. I had to work late every day this week. This sucked because it has really thrown a monkey wrench in my planning for the upcoming Snickers marathon that is now just 2 weeks away. From looking back after getting my Marathon Maniac status, I know that I can physically finish the race and feel good but as for me that is just not enough. I want to finish strong and possibly PR.

I got a chance yesterday to watch and take pictures at our annual Al-Tol 5/15K road race. The race finishes on a large downhill stretch so I decided to lay off this race cause of possible injuries coming down too fast. Also I wanted to put some money back for my marathon trip. It was nice watching everyone coming across and getting new PR's. I just hope I got some great pictures to share with them.

After the race was over with, I got a chance to talk with Deb ( MM # 710 ) about the Snickers race. I told her I was going to try and shoot for a PR and was curious if she thought she might be up for the challenge. This is going to probably be my last race for a couple of months due to wife having back surgery so I am going to lay it on the line. Like Rocky said "Go for it".

A special thanks to Kenny and Stefanie this week for introducing me to Weight Watchers. I was not sure how it was going to work out but it has been easier than I thought. I have not been following it 100% but it has been close. I have found that if I have a little more in the morning, I just need to cut back on the other meals. So far as of this morning celebrating 1 week on the WW, which is so funny that WW is upside down from MM, I have now lost 8 pounds. I am only 7 pounds away from my lowest goal in 3 years since I lost alot of weight and started running. I keep reminding myself that a pound = 1 sec off of your min/mile pace. Now I am off 16 sec/mile from where I was 2 weeks ago.

2 weeks to go to Snickers and alot riding on the shoulders now. Mentally and physically I have alot of questions and now I am starting to have those thoughts run through my mind. I might have taken a break this week on the post but look out. I am on a writing binge now.

Have a great week, I HAVE TO GO RUN.........

Eating right = more energy = faster times

Need I say any more

Tonight when I got off from work, I met Amy and Deanna downtown for a 4 mile run. I asked Amy what kind of speed she was looking at and she quickly replied slow about an 11 min pace. I told her that I hope I could keep up with them.

I started a new program this weekend which is weight watchers. I have seen lately how well it has worked for Kenny and Stef and well, I am jealous with envy. So I decided to start and see how it pays off. WOW. It really does give you more energy when you eat properly. It is like running an engine on high test gasoline with an octane booster.

As we ran tonight, I kept thinking that I was getting ready for a break. Well after a few seconds when I started thinking this way, it would pass. It was weird. I was not getting tired. I felt great! My watch did not start correctly when we started running so I had to run an extra 1/4 mile to get an even 4 miles on the computer. This is the summary.

Mile 1- 11:18

Mile 2- 10:58

Mile 3- 10:36

Mile 4- 9:56

I have this on my watch and computer for verification. :o) I could not believe this. Maybe this summer I will work on some faster and more consistent times but for right now, I am happy where I am.

See ya at the track tomorrow night.

Running old school = New PR

Today was The Sweetheart 12K road race and it was going to start with a chance of rain in the forecast. Mid 50's at the start of the race with no breeze. I got my race packet while chatting with my ol running coach Ronald Sharpe and some of my other running friends from Macon Tracks Running Club. I placed my bib number on my running belt and looked down and OH NO!!!!!!!! I forgot my Garmin and my backup Ironman watch. OMG What do I do now?????????

It is back to the old school. Lets run for the fun of it. Having to pace yourself on how your body feels and not having to have a watch tell you how to run. I was now thinking do I go out and run a steady pace, do I try and keep up with the fast pacers or do I find someone with a spare watch. Amy told me she had a spare Ironman that I could borrow but it was pink. I thought about it and said No thanks.

Kenny was running his first ever race today and signed up for the 12K also. He was going to run a 1/2 ratio because his wife runs a 2/1 and they normally meet up together. I asked him if I could join him so that I could have a watch to try and figure out my pace. He said OK and we were off. Running a 9 min mile and walking keep us in a 11 min pace overall. I liked it because I am trying to keep an 11 min mile at Snickers to possibly PR.

We kept the same pace through out the course. When we got near the finish I told Kenny that normally I like to not listen to the last walk break and finish it running in. He said go ahead and I see ya at the finish line. I got on top of the hill of the last leg and turned the corner to see Andrew MM#801 to great me. He ran in and I asked him if he wanted to sprint it in with me. I think he said no cause he is going to Alabama tomorrow for a marathon and did not want to get hurt. I finished up with a time of 1:21:15 which is now a new PR for a 12K. Kenny finished about 40 sec behind me.

Kenny, you did an awesome run today and I am proud of ya boy. Keep it up and you will be in Boston before ya know it.

I just got finished with my reservation and paperwork to send in for Snickers marathon and now it is off to bed to maybe get up tomorrow and go for a nice stroll.

2 workouts in 1 night

Today I got off work early so I was able to go to the central city park track and run with Amy. I did not know that it was going to be a death trap. We took off for a nice pace at about an 11 min mile. We finished up with the first mile and came around to see Monika and Leora waiting for us. Amy then told me that we are now going for a 20 min run at an 8:48 pace or some Godly insane number in the 8 range. I looked at her and said WHAT!! I did not sign up for this. So like usual I took off with the group. Peer pressure sucks! I was able to go for about a 1/4 mile at that pace before I found a short cut and waited while I was sucking wind. I got in about 2 miles before calling it a night.

I left from there and went to go run with Stef. We left from Wesleyan College, where there is nothing but women :o), and went for a 2/1 pace. We had a great time until the HILL from Hell. We had fun running down it and making jokes about that sure would be hard to run back. I hope we find another way out of here. Well, it was a subdivision with a dead end. Oh know, we had to turn around a go up hill, walking. Man that was rough. We quickly got of there and went back on some surface streets to finish our night.

Stef was so nice to let me put some flowers that I had gotten for wife into her room so that they would not get to hot. Kenny, you should have seen some of the looks from the other girls. I am sure you will probably get a phone call. LOL Anyway thank you Stef for letting me keep them cool. She loved them.

Track worlouts

Last night I went to the track with all intentions of going on finding out what kind of possible time frame I could look at with a 2/1 pace. Well it worked ok for the first 3 miles. I kept an 11:30 pace and I think that was enough the break my sub 5 marathon that I am looking for. Now can I hold that pace the whole time. I hope so. I will find out in about 3 weeks.

I ran with Steve and it was good to see him back at the track running. We have all missed him while he is going through some hardships. I have found out before that sometimes you just have to get out and run and put everything on the back burner and sweat. Being able to get out and run gives you alot of time to think about everything and run off some emotions.

And that is what he did. For a while we were running paces in the 7:30's. I told him that I was not out there to run speed but I can't hold back from a challenge. Sometimes you just have to cut loose and have some fun.

Sometimes you just have to get back to the basics

It is so nice to just get out and run. It is even better to run with friends. Monday night I got a chance to go run with one of my running buddies Amy and we went for an easy 3 miler. She had already gotten in a few before me so that way she would be tired and I could possibly keep up. When ran like there was no care in the world.

Amy is training with her coach and she has a set heart rate that she must hold while running. I have a set HR and mine is just not to explode. It was fun running and hearing her monitor saying that we were actually running too fast. Her watch would beep about every 45 secs and we would take a quick break. I don't think I ever looked at mine cause I was having fun listening to hers.

I felt great just running and not wondering how far nor how fast to run. I am getting ready for the Snickers marathon in 3 weeks and I finally decided to run old school style. GO OUT AND HAVE FUN!!!!!!

I will be running either a 1/1 or a 2/1 but no matter what, I will be running what I am good at and that is long distance. I am not a fast person and nor will I be any time soon. I will be working with a coach again this summer but not right now. I am finally figures out that no one is created the same and I am a long distance chugging machine :o) I might not be on the steps collecting any trophies but I will have lots of lasting memories of my races and runs with Friends.

Until later, everyone stay healthy and enjoy life for what it is worth while we are here.

Weekend review

This weekend I had a chance to run with someone new, Kenny, who is a photographer turned runner. He recently took up running so that he could run with his wife Stef. He is really getting into the sport. He told me about his recent purchases of all his cold weather clothes, shoes and extras. I had to remind him that now the only thing to pay for is the races.

We went out for a run not knowing how far we would go. We took off through the River walk and ran some through downtown Macon passing by some of the local eating stops. Before the day was over, we finished up with about 7 miles. Kenny used a 1 1.5/3 method of Galloway styles. He had a fast pace with about a n 8:30-9:15 while we were running. It was almost the dame pace I kept at the Aviation marathon at a 1/1 pace. I told him that he would have to play around with the ratio and speed to find a comfortable pace. I am still playing around the find the right pace that will work for me. I have recently tried to get back into running without any breaks and it is like starting all over again.

I hope to get some runs in this week with a long run this weekend to get ready for Snickers on March 7th. I need to start looking for Motels to stay at also. I don't want this to sneak up on me without any warning.

Well with the warm weather we are having, lets go outside any run and sweat.

A cold get together

Last night I met up with Amy and Stef for a run down on the river walk and through downtown. It was cold. The wind was whipping through like a lawyer in a trailer park. Amy made the comment several times about "We must be hard core for being out here". I was thinking about that statement all night long.

Looking back I really needed to hear Amy make that statement. It made me realize that I am not hardcore but someone who just likes to get out with others runners and just run. Not for any distance nor any speed records but just to go run. I had a ball.

Lately I have been looking into the Team in Training program and I like it. It is a program that helps other runners and athletes to finish a training program to finish certain races. While running with Stef last night, I made the statement about I like to run and would love to maybe one day be in the situation to help others. I have had so many people help me so far and would love to pass on the same help to others.

I really needed the run last night. It was nice showing Stef around Macon through the river walk and downtown. I was explaining to her that it is really nice to run through downtown Macon at night. It is not bad and it is really nice during the spring time. Everything is in bloom and you can run past the local restaurants and smell the wonderful food. One of the places we went past was the Nu Way. That is when Stef told me that she has never been there. I thought this was crazy. Everyone has eaten there, I thought. We kept running and talking about food and before I realized it, we had finished up over 6 miles.

I am looking forward to more runs with the attitude of just going running. I enjoy going out and logging in the miles but not going out with the possibility of going home in pain. I have heard so many runners lately that have participated in track workouts that are now paying the price with injuries. Not me. I like being able to get up in the morning and not hurting. I am having some issues with my left foot but I am sure it will pass. If not I will find out what it is after Snickers :o)

Maybe tonight I will go out for some easy miles and just enjoy life. Until then, log in the miles and love life.

Time to get ready

Well it looks like I am going for another marathon. Snickers in Albany on March 7th. I thought I was going to do the half but somethings have come up. I only have about 4 weeks to get ready. I wanted to do the half so that it would get me ready for Country Music but things change for reasons.

I know I will be able run the race but I don't know if I want to try a 3/1 or a 2/1 ratio. I wanted to try and get a new PR and beat my time from last year which was a 5:08. I am thinking now that I might be looking to much into beating a clock and not just having fun.

When I started running I thought it would be fun to win some trophies so that I would have something to put on the mantle. Well I am not going to lie. Yes they do look nice and bring back some great memories but nothing can change the memories I have from meeting friends from running. I need to step back and look at running when I did when I first started out. Running is fun. When I get out there, I am helping myself.

When I go to Snickers, somewhere deep down inside of me I will be shooting for a PR but if not I am going to have fun. When I ran this race last year, I hurt so bad afterwards. I did not want to run anymore. I thought I was finished. I do not want to go through that again. I want to finish and say "What's next". So many people get wrapped up in what people think about their finishing times and try to compare themselves to others. I am trying to get out of that atmosphere. I want to get back to the fun times of running.

See ya later and lets have fun. Remember we are all made differently.

My first long run since becoming a Maniac

I am proud to say I am back. I still lack the energizer bunny status but at least I got out there today. I have been plagued with this nasty cold and sinus problems that have kept me indoors.

Amy told me the other day that she and some friends were going out for an easy 7 miles today and I thought it would be easy. WRONG!!! It was rough. I am still having a mucus factory going on in my lungs that is working overtime. My body has to get back in the running mode. I was trying to keep up but I know I was slowing everyone down and for that I am truly sorry.

We ran through part of downtown and on the river walk and it was great to get back out. I have to get ready for the Snickers marathon on March 7th. I am probably going to run a 2/1 ratio that day cause my body is just not up to running without breaks. I am a 6'3" 260 pounder marathoner. I am not a typical little person and it takes more energy to push the gravity away from the earth for me to run. I am trying to loose so more weight before.

Until then, see ya on the road.
